Tri-State Tour - Queens New York
Raphael
DaBreo ( a former Knight) fought back from the
one-loss side to defeat Beau Baer in the finals of
the
Tri-State Tour stop January 17. The $500-added, A-D
handicapped event drew 32 entrants to Break Bar &
Billiards in Queens, NY.
On
the winners' side, Baer got by Wilfredo Albay 8-7
to move into the hot seat match versus Luis Robinson,
who'd defeated Mike Schloven 8-6. Baer gained the
hot seat with his second hill-hill win in a row, defeating
Robinson 7-6.
DaBreo,
in the meantime, working on the one-loss side, defeated
Rhio Anne Flores in a double-hill match-up and followed
it with a 7-3 win over Raj Vannala, which set him
up to face Albay. Scott Simonetti advanced past Stewart
Warnock 7-5 and John Alicea 7-6 to meet Schloven.
DaBreo defeated Albay 6-4 and faced Simonetti, following
an illness forfeit by Schloven. DaBreo, with a C+
handicap, started the quarterfinal match versus Simonetti,
an A+ handicap, with four games in hand. In the subsequent
race to 9, DaBreo gave up only three to Simonetti,
advancing to the semifinals versus Robinson.
Up by 3 at the start in the finals versus Baer, DaBreo
won a game and then watched as Baer took 5 of the
next 8. At that point, on the hill, DaBreo stopped
Baer's advance, winning the thirteenth game to force
the extension to 10 games and then the next 2 to capture
the first-place prize.
